Rounding out this month's theme of Tester Chat Hacks, this week's request actually came from a tester whom I've had the pleasure of working with several times, and who always gives quality work. This particular hack is two parts - one for designs and one for testers.
Back story: In a recent chat, this particular tester asked the designer for guidance on what to highlight for an upcoming pattern release - the sales platforms it would be available on was the specific question. The designer promptly responded, and then encouraged the makers to share their favorite part of the design, as well as some of her key design points - size-inclusive, top-down, and seamless. The next day, the tester reached out to me and asked me to share this on a TET, and I'm only too happy to do so. The tester specifically appreciated the guidance, and it's the first she had received in a chat ever.
To the Designers:
Please provide the names of the platforms the pattern will be available on ahead of time to your testers - Etsy, PayHip, website, Rav, etc. While you won't have your links to share, they are there to help hype the pattern, and knowing where to look is key!
Please also provide the key things you'd like highlighted - size-inclusive, seamless, made-to-fit, whatever! There are so many amazing details to pieces, sometimes what is nearest and dearest to you (and marketing) isn't what is shared.
To the Testers / Makers:
Make sure you are sharing your favorite detail - how huge the pockets are on a top, the magical hemline that looks complicated but isn't, the bobbles along the neckline that acts as a necklace for you.
Share what drew you into the test, besides being a gorgeous make - size-inclusive, seamless, meditative stitch, etc.
When in doubt, ask the designer if they are looking for something specific!
If you ever need someone to talk to about a design idea, help with reviewing a submission, or working through the design process prior to going to the publication tech editor, I'm here to help you in any way I can to embrace your dream of being in print!
Also, if you see any submission calls anywhere, feel free to shoot me an email or a DM and let me know so that I can include it in the next newsletter!
