Happy Thursday, y'all! So next in the pop quiz series - who knew there were not only multiple names for yarn weights, but they also go by ply count? Yeah... I knew the names, but that was it. Until last spring.
Life is all about continually learning right? I got my crash course in plys when I was trying to help an international tester figure out a yarn substitution situation. I discovered very quickly that they referred to yarn in a different fashion than the designer and I did. I found the ply names on YarnSub and we were able to figure it out together. PS: The tester's version was fabulous!
I can hear some people now - "But Tiffany, I don't want to list 10 different names for a yarn to make my materials 10 pages." That's completely fair! Stick with the weight and/or your home country's naming of the yarn. I do, however, HIGHLY suggest adding the ply count too going forward to be more inclusive for more makers.
Example: Yarn: WeCrochet Brava Worsted (100% Premium Acrylic, Weight 4 worsted / 10 ply) in Tidepool (218yds / 100g)
Yes, this can be tweaked to your "voice", but you get the idea.
